Seyi Sodimu’s Song ‘Love Me Jeje’ Goes from US Rejection to Grammy Win with Tems

In a video shared by Nigerian music executive Ayo Shonaiye, singer Seyi Sodimu talked about how his hit song ‘Love Me Jeje’ was initially rejected by American music labels in 1997.

Seyi Sodimu said he spent two years trying to promote the song in New York. “I didn’t release it for about two years because I tried to market it in New York.

I went to a lot of record companies and record labels…They told me it was hard to market me because I look American but sound African,” he explained.

After facing rejection in the US, Sodimu returned to Nigeria and promoted the song on Ray Power radio, quickly turning it into a major hit.

Years later, the song gained international fame when Nigerian superstar Tems used it in one of her tracks on her debut album ‘Born In The Wild.’

This helped the song achieve international success and led to Tems winning the award for Best African Music Performance at the 67th Grammys.

Tems praised Sodimu on social media for making the process of using the song easy and called ‘Love Me Jeje’ a “timeless classic.”
