I ran away on the day of my wedding
Part 1
Short story.
I ran away from a millionaire on the day of our wedding. He immediately sent people to look for me.
So I hid in a poor neighborhood. Cut of my hair and and put on some rags I found in the trash.
I looked like a poor beggar and aroused pity by the people passing by the road side.
Among which was a young man who came to me and said,
“You must be cold, let me buy you a cup of coffee”.
His voice sparkled through my heart as I raised my head to see who he was. His name was John and he was very handsome. I admired his neatly trimmed beards but pretended I picked no interest in him.
But a cash and free coffee? I, of course agreed. Staying outside was also dangerous for me.
Simon, my ex fiance. The one whom I ran from acted very decisively and promised a reward to whoever finds me.
Where we entered to have a coffee, there on a live news was my picture with a promise of 20,000,000 dollars for whoever finds the runaway bride. As they tagged me.
Immediately, John’s eyes were on the live news, he smiled after viewing the contents on the news and said,
“20,000,000 dollars for whoever find a runaway bride?
I could use that money to gain all that I lost! “
I wrapped myself with the rain coat I had even more.
The last thing I needed was for him to recognize me, but he couldn’t. We later ended up at some wretched cafe.
“What a wonderful place. I’ve never been to one like this”. I smiled and said.
I enthusiastically pretended to be a slum dweller.
Suddenly, John noticed my gold necklace which I forgot to take off.
“How did a poor girl got in possession with this luxurious piece”. He asked.
I was on the verge of been exposed so I had to lie.
“I got this necklace from my late parents”. I said…
John seemed to buy it. Then however, I spotted my fiance’s thugs.
They thought of searching the slums and were moving towards us.
I had no where to run so I clung to John. He thought I was crying and gently hugged me back.
I stayed as calm as a hungry dog and waited for the thugs to leave the premisses. Immediately they left, I gently pushed him away.
There was no need endangering the one that was kind to me. I thought he will also be in danger if the thugs finds me with him.
“Thank you for your help… I’m sorry to say I will be going now. Please take care”…
I said but he seemed to pick interest in helping me and thought I will still head back to the cold street.
Before I could move a step, he held my hand and said,
Hey what’s up… I… I want to help you”.
I realized it was too risky to stay on the streets. So I admitted. And told John, I have no place to go.
The naive guy offered me to live with him without thinking otherwise…
But I was scared of what will become of us if my brutal Fiance finds us…
You won’t believe what happened next.
