Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest forward player Taiwo Awoniyi has spoken for the first time after the injury he suffered against Leicester City.
The football world have been sending get well soon message to Taiwo Awoniyi since the injury incident. The striker posted an appreciation message to everyone who wished him via his official Instagram account on Monday, May 19, 2025.
What did Taiwo Awoniyi say after his injury?He thanked everyone at the club for the support that was showed towards him since he suffered the injury.
“This season has been one of the most difficult of my career but through it all, I have felt the love. With the grace of God, I am grateful to still be here, to still be fighting, to still be smiling, and to be in good spirits. To my teammates, coaches, staff and the entire Forest family, thank you for your well wishes, seeing you all on your visit to the hospital lifted my spirits more than words can say.”
How did Taiwo Awoniyi get injured?Awoniyi suffered an injury during the game against Leicester City after he collided with the goalpost. The game ended 2-2 which was a blow in Forest’s quest to qualify for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.
He has woken from an induced coma after undergoing surgery to repair a serious abdominal injury. Having had the first part of the surgery on Monday, May 12, 2025, he spent Tuesday in an induced coma as medical staff monitored his progress as part of the procedure.
Awoniyi underwent the second stage of the operation, including closing the wound, on Wednesday a successful process.
