Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has shared an emotional message of gratitude following his recovery from life-threatening emergency surgery.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international revealed that he suffered a ruptured intestine during Forest’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Leicester City, a serious injury that required two major surgeries and placed him in a medically induced coma.
Taking to social media, Awoniyi opened up about the harrowing experience, calling this season one of the most difficult of his career. Despite the ordeal, he expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming love and support he received.
“This season has been one of the most difficult of my career, but through it all, I have felt the love,” he wrote. “With the grace of God, I am grateful to still be here, to still be fighting, to still be smiling, and to be in good spirits.”
He went on to thank his family, friends, and fans—especially those in Nigeria—for their prayers and encouragement. Awoniyi also praised the Nottingham Forest community for their unwavering support during his recovery.
“To my teammates, coaches, staff, and the entire Forest family, thank you for your well wishes. Seeing you all on your visit to the hospital lifted my spirits more than words can say,” he added.
As the Premier League season draws to a close, Awoniyi sent a message of encouragement to his teammates, urging them to remain strong and keep pushing through the final matches.
