The Deadly Plane Crashes in 2025 So Far

Air travel is considered one of the safest modes of transportation, but when accidents happen, they often lead to tragic losses. So far in 2025, at least 13 deadly plane crashes have been recorded worldwide, claiming more than 100 lives.

While aviation experts say the overall number of crashes has decreased compared to past years, the severity of recent incidents has raised concerns. Many of these crashes have occurred within a short time, making it seem like air travel has become more dangerous.

Notable Plane Crashes in 2025Here are some of the major plane crashes that have happened this year:

January 29 – Washington, D.C., USAAn American Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 collided mid-air with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. All 67 people on both aircraft lost their lives, making it the deadliest commercial aviation crash in the U.S. in 15 years.

How Safe Is Flying in 2025?Despite these tragic incidents, aviation remains one of the safest ways to travel. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), thousands of flights take off and land safely every day.

NTSB Chairperson Jennifer Homendy reassured the public, saying:

“Aviation is incredibly safe. You are at greater risk getting into your car to and from the airport.”

While no form of travel is completely risk-free, experts continue to work on improving flight safety.
