‘The Silk’n LED and EMS face mask got rid of my skin’s redness and texture in 6 weeks’

‘The Silk’n LED and EMS face mask got rid of my skin’s redness and texture in 6 weeks’

Over the past few years, there’s been a massive surge in the number of skincare gadgets you can incorporate into your daily beauty regime. While they all promise various benefits and outcomes, trying to fit them all into a routine can turn your skincare ritual from a soothing pamper session into a strict regimen that’s exhausting to keep up with.

So when Silk’n launched its first-ever tool that merges two top skincare gadgets into one, I knew I had to give it a whirl. The Silk’n LED Face EMS Mask combines both LED light technology and EMS electrodes, offering you the advantage of both treatments in one straightforward session.

Before we delve deeper, here’s a brief overview of the perks of both technologies:

LED therapy One of the most popular at-home gadgets these days is an LED face mask, with LED therapy promoting cellular changes in your skin. Perfect for enhancing everything from acne and fine lines to skin tone and texture, it’s a non-invasive, pain-free skincare treatment that has proven to yield positive results.

EMS therapy EMS, or electromyostimulation, employs mild electrical currents to stimulate your facial muscles – essentially like giving your face a gym workout. This is not only said to help tighten and tone your skin, but also to help diminish signs of ageing and define your face’s contours, while stimulating collagen production and blood flow.

Both treatments promise to work in harmony to create a brighter, more youthful and even complexion without the need to constantly switch between two different devices. This sounded like the ideal solution for me as I’m notoriously poor at sticking to a regular routine, especially when it involves tools and gadgets – so the fact that I managed to maintain this for six weeks should already say a lot.

I simply kept the Silk’n LED Face EMS Mask by my bedside and used it every other night before bed. This not only forced me to relax and unwind, improving my sleep, but also made it much easier to remember to use it.

The mask offers four different colours of LED lights to choose from. I stuck with the amber one, which helps with redness, but you can also select from blue, red and red with near infrared settings.

You can choose whether or not to use the EMS settings alongside your LED mask, and there are eight different intensity settings to choose from. I suggest starting on the lowest setting, particularly if you’re new to EMS treatments, as it can feel a bit uncomfortable initially.

It took me about three uses to progress to level two, and a few more times before I could advance to level three, where I’ve remained ever since. While it’s not painful, it is an unusual prickling sensation that moves around the different EMS pads of the mask.

The LED setting will run for 10 minutes, and if you’ve opted for EMS too it will simply run throughout your LED treatment. You can also turn it on or off at any point, giving you more room to work up to the full 10 minutes if you need it.

I tested this out for six weeks, which was just enough time to start seeing results. This isn’t a “use it once and you’ll see miracles” type of product – you need to be consistent to see any visible changes.

Realistically it will probably take months to see any drastic improvements, but after six weeks I could definitely see some changes. For starters, my skin’s redness has definitely improved, particularly around my cheeks which I’m attesting to the yellow LED light working its magic.

Whilst I don’t suddenly have the cheekbones of Bella Hadid, my skin does feel noticeably firmer and plumper, particularly around my cheeks and temples thanks to the EMS. I’ve also noticed that the fine lines around my eyes seem less pronounced, as does the particularly deep forehead wrinkle I seemed to develop the moment I cleared my 32nd birthday.

My overall skin texture and tone is also more even, and my skin feels softer and smoother. I used to suffer really badly from keratosis pilaris which left small bumps on my face, but this seems to have got rid of those too.

Is the Silk’n LED Face EMS Mask worth it? In my view, absolutely. While it may not be a miracle worker for more advanced skincare issues, it does a fantastic job of improving and maintaining your skin. Plus, its easiness is a massive plus as you’re more likely to stick with it.

Despite only hitting the market last month, the Silk’n LED Face EMS Mask has already garnered 19 reviews on LookFantastic, all of them five-star, raving about how much it’s improved everything from skin firmness to acne. Although it’s a hefty investment at £299.99, I believe it’s totally worth it, especially when you consider that a regular LED mask without the EMS function often costs more!

If you’re in the market for other multi-purpose LED masks, the Shark CryoGlow Under-Eye Cooling and LED Anti-Ageing and Blemish Repair Mask combines LED with cryotherapy to help combat puffiness and inflammation. Usually priced at £299.99, it’s currently reduced to £269.99.
