Collagen supplements are all the rage in the beauty world these days, with some skincare gurus swearing by them, while others argue that there’s not enough independent evidence to confirm their benefits for skin, hair and nails. I’ve been a fan of collagen powders and capsules for years, however, and have personally seen the positive impact they’ve had on me – this one has quickly become a new favourite.
My preferred method of taking collagen supplements is as a powder mixed into my morning smoothie, and Verve’s Naked Beauty Collagen is perfect for this. It boasts a super-blend of 12,500 mg of marine collagen and 13 other skin-enhancing ingredients like biotin, zinc, vitamin C and probiotics. It’s designed to be mixed into water or, as I do, another type of drink. I’ve been kick-starting my day with it for months now, and I’ve noticed a massive difference.

While some customers have noted that the taste isn’t particularly appealing when mixed with water, I find it enhances the flavour of my morning smoothie (I blend it with oat milk, a banana, frozen berries, a spoonful of peanut butter and a few oats) – it adds a slight vanilla taste and makes it thicker. I usually have this around 10am, and it keeps me satisfied until at least 1pm.
I’ve been using just half of the suggested amount – one scoop instead of two – and I’ve still noticed a difference. This means that one of these large pouches, which costs £64 on a monthly subscription or £80 for a one-off purchase, lasts me two months rather than one, working out at roughly £1 per serving, reports the Mirror.
Verve suggests that regular use over time can lead to benefits such as increased skin elasticity, reduced wrinkles, and enhanced hydration. However, I find it difficult to track changes in my skin; I’m always experimenting with new skincare products, and my complexion seems to have a life of its own: sometimes it’s pretty much flawless, other times I experience months of breakouts.

Where I have seen a significant change, however, is in my nails. They used to be incredibly weak and flexible, constantly splitting, but now they’re much stronger and never flake or split – and I attribute this to regularly taking this beauty powder.
High-quality collagen supplements aren’t inexpensive, but as long as I can afford them, I’ll continue to take ones like this Verve one; they easily fit into my routine, and I believe they make a difference.
If you’re not a smoothie drinker and prefer a ‘one gulp and done’ collagen supplement, try Gold Collagen Pure, from £30 for 30 days’ worth, (this is one of the cheapest of several varieties the brand sells). Alternatively, Vida Glow Natural Marine Collagen, from £33.15 for 30 doses, tastes pleasant mixed with water and is a favourite among beauty editors.
