Whether you’re jetting off on holiday or just going about your daily routine, SPF should be a non-negotiable part of your skincare regime. However, finding a formula that doesn’t feel too heavy or greasy, especially for men who might not be accustomed to using as many skincare products, can be a challenge. But I’ve found one that both my boyfriend and I have given the seal of approval.
During a recent mini-break to Italy, where temperatures hit around 22°C daily, we decided to simplify our packing by bringing just one facial sunscreen for us both to use. And the one we chose – and subsequently loved – was BYOMA’s new Ultralight Face Fluid SPF 50, available from Boots for £14.99, reports the Mirror. Here’s why it was such a hit…

Firstly, if you’re considering taking it on your travels, the 50ml bottle is incredibly slim yet easy to squeeze (remember to give it a shake first), so it won’t take up much room in your toiletries bag.
Not only is it super high factor – with SPF 50 and broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection – but it also contains hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and something called ‘cera-sun technology’, which helps to soothe redness caused by sun exposure. Plus, it’s fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores.
We both loved how, despite its high SPF, it feels utterly weightless and leaves the skin moisturised without any greasy residue. Plus, there’s zero white cast – a detail my boyfriend was particularly thankful for, as it can often stand out in beards.

Boots customers are raving about it too, giving it 4.6 out of 5 stars from numerous reviews. One shopper shared their delight: “I’ve highly enjoyed using this SPF!” They added, “It has a really great applicator which means I can apply straight to the face and not onto my palm first. I also find it doesn’t leave a white cast on my Indian skin, and it absorbs nicely without leaving me feeling greasy.”
Another satisfied user said: “I am very happy with this. I have quite oily, reactive skin, and sunscreen often makes me break out. This one does not.” They explained further, “I find it works best if I apply it on top of the Byoma gel cream moisturizer, my skin does not seem to like it if I use the sunscreen instead of moisturiser. Leaves a healthy glow without looking or feeling too greasy.”

A third chimed in with praise: “This is fab, the texture is lovely, it’s easily absorbed with great coverage. I’m taking this on holiday as its a great size for me to keep in my handbag.”
However, one customer found the product didn’t sit well under makeup, sharing that “it doesn’t absorb very well in my skin and kind of flakes off (like the texture you get if you rub off glue from your skin). Definitely isn’t suitable for under make-up. Very disappointing as I love all the other Byoma products I have but will not be repurchasing this one.” Another user suggested a workaround, advising to wait five minutes post-application before layering make-up.

Here at OK!, we’ve been testing out some other face SPFs that have caught our attention. I’m currently loving Ultra Violette Future Fluid SPF 50+ Superlight Mineral Skinscreen, £38, (though it might not be one for men as it does offer a slight skin-evening effect), while our senior shopping writer Faith has been trialling Holly Willoughby’s favourite tinted SPF.
