*TOPIC: WISE LEADERSHIP*
_”But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly” Philemon 1:14._
*MESSAGE*
Throughout the Bible, we encounter various leaders, some exhibiting folly and others wisdom. A wise leader doesn’t exploit their authority to oppress but aim to assist and uplift those they lead. Humility is a key trait of wise leadership, fostering encouragement for followers, as demonstrated by the Apostle Paul.
In today’s scripture, it’s evident that Paul doesn’t coerce Philemon into freeing his slave, Onesimus. Instead, he presents the truth about Onesimus, urging Philemon to make an informed decision. Similarly, God doesn’t force us to do what is right. His rule is not of cruelty or intimidation; instead, He seeks our voluntary submission to His guidance. This way, the good actions we take arise from our free will rather than compulsion.
Paul’s message to Philemon underscores the importance of willing and voluntary actions over coerced compliance. Even God, the Sovereign of the universe, allows us the freedom to choose. If God, in His supremacy, respects our free will, how much more should we, as fallible humans, avoid imposing our will on others?
