The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have officially qualified for the semifinal of the U20 AFCON tournament and the World Cup as well.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured their spot at the FIFA U20 World Cup after defeating defending champions Senegal in a tense CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final match in Egypt.
The tightly contested encounter ended in a goalless draw before Nigeria triumphed in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt played a crucial role, making a vital save during the match and stopping two penalties in the shootout.
His heroics helped Nigeria overcome Senegal, with Ousmane Konate’s missed penalty sealing the victory.
With the win, the Flying Eagles advance to the semi-finals, where they will meet the winner of the South Africa vs. DR Congo clash. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, expressed joy over the qualification, describing it as an essential achievement.
He emphasised that while securing a World Cup ticket was the first goal, the team must now focus on winning the tournament.
