US investigates DeepSeek over national security concerns

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday that the National Security Council (NSC) will review the potential national security implications of DeepSeek’s launch and emphasized the government’s goal of “ensuring US dominance in artificial intelligence.” On Jan. 28, the US Navy issued a warning to its members, advising them to avoid using DeepSeek “in any capacity” due to “potential security and ethical concerns.” On Jan. 27, President Donald Trump said the release of DeepSeek should be a “wake-up call” after the Chinese AI startup caused sharp stock declines in US tech companies like Nvidia and Oracle.
