WHEN YOU HAVE a show like FUBAR, Netflix’s Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle that just debuted its second season, you get the opportunity to include a lot of different types of actor on screen. With its unique tone—clearly inspired by the action/comedy combo of James Cameron’s True Lies, which Schwarzenegger also starred in—you can include people from all different parts of the film and television spectrum.
Let’s look at just a couple examples. Obviously the lead of the show is Schwarzenegger, himself an action icon who can dabble in comedy and drama, as super spy Luke Brunner. His daughter, Emma, is played by Monica Barbaro—who is well-known for her role in Top Gun: Maverick, and just a few months ago got her first Academy Award nomination for playing Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown. The show also features Jay Baruchel, a major name in modern comedy for his work in movies like This Is The End and Knocked Up who also recently gave a knockout performance in BlackBerry. Season 1’s antagonist was played by Gabriel Luna, who tears the screen up on HBO’s The Last of Us, and Season 2 brings in Carrie-Anne Moss, a legendary actor best known for her ass-kicking role in The Matrix, as Luke’s old flame and new adversary.
In short, there’s a lot of people involved, and a lot of different styles, and the show’s balance of comedy and action makes it all work. And so when you’re running down the familiar faces in the show, it’s nice every time the show gives a little time to Donnie, the new boyfriend turned ex-boyfriend of Tally (Fabiana Udenio), Luke’s ex-wife.
In season 2, Donnie is really going through it. While the whole crew is stuck in witness protection (which is tough), he’s also going through a break-up (which is super tough). The show isn’t playing him for drama, though—Donnie’s is being played for laughs, and so who else to bring in but Andy Buckley? “He’s going absolutely nuts,” Schwarzenegger told Tudum about the character and performance. “The laughter that those kind of scenes created was just spectacular.”
You may not know Buckley by name, but you’ve likely seen him before. And he’s almost certainly made you laugh.

If Donnie on FUBAR looks familiar at all, it’s because you’ve probably seen him before on one of the most popular and heralded sitcoms of the last 25 years. That’s right—Andy Buckley played Dunder Mifflin corproate boss David Wallace on 37 episodes of The Office.
But that’s far from it. Buckley is something of an all-star comedic character actor, showing up through the years on sitcoms like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Arrested Development, The League, Silicon Valley, You’re The Worst, Casual, Shameless, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. He’s made his mark on the big screen too, showing up in movies like Bridesmaids, The Heat, The Other Guys, Jurassic World, and Lady Bird.
If Buckley looks like a familiar face, its likely because you’ve seen him being funny in at least a handful of these very funny projects.
