YouTube Music is now descriptively naming My Mixes

YouTube Music is now descriptively naming My Mixes

A tweak to YouTube Music makes it easier to browse the auto-generated My Mix playlists with custom naming.

Previously, YouTube Music named custom mixes as My Mix 1, My Mix 2, My Mix 3, etc. You would read the list of artists to find out who’s featured or use the album artwork.

Users are now beginning to see their mixes feature actual names. In my case, it’s:

Modern Indie Allure: Cold War Kids, Vampire Weekend, St. Vincent

Indie Pop Gems: Clairo, Billie Eilish, King Princess, Alex G

Offbeat Pop Shenanigans: The Lonely Island, Jason Derulo, JAY-Z [Pretty good and appropriate]

Easy Listening Earworms: OneRepublic, Glass Animals, Labrinth, dazy

Acoustic Treasures: Royel Otis, Wallows, Brie Larson, LCD Soundsystem

Classic Hits Reimagined: The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2

Alt Rock Masterpieces: The Strokes, The Voidz, Phoenix, Foster the People

There’s no change to the cover art label that still uses My Mix 1-7, while My Supermix, Discover Mix, Archive Mix, Replay Mix, and New Release Mix are also unchanged.

Overall, this is a better approach that makes the Mixed for you carousel a bit more browsable and personalized. It reminds me of how Google Photos can use generative AI to name Memories/Moments.

We’re seeing this change on Android, iOS, and web, but it’s not yet widely rolled out for all users.
